Orange Badge Programme

The Orange Badge is the next step for developing umpires who already understand the basics and want to grow their confidence, consistency, and teamwork.Running within our half‑field (6‑a‑side) secondary competitions, this programme helps umpires build on their fundamentals while preparing for the transition toward full‑field hockey.

Who it’s for

  • Junior and secondary school umpires ready to progress from the basics and develop stronger on‑field confidence.
  • Umpires learning to work effectively with a co‑umpire and beginning to apply more complex rules.
  • Aspiring full‑field umpires and those working toward future opportunities, including AIMS Games and Blue Badge development.

What you’ll gain

  • Enhanced skills in whistling, signalling, positioning, and the application of more complex rules.
  • Experience in co‑umpire communication, teamwork, and shared control of the game.
  • Support through pre‑season workshops, on‑the‑night coaching, and guided self‑reflection to build confidence and consistency.
  • A strong platform that prepares you for the transition into full‑field umpiring and the Blue Badge pathway.
