Blue Badge Programme

The Blue Badge is designed for umpires who are ready to take the next step into full‑field (11‑a‑side) hockey. It supports confident developing umpires who want to refine their skills, manage the game more effectively, and prepare for higher‑level opportunities across secondary school and representative environments.

Who it’s for

  • Secondary school umpires transitioning from half‑field to full‑field hockey.
  • Umpires who have developed strong fundamentals and are ready for more challenge and responsibility.
  • Officials aiming to progress into representative tournaments, development squads, and advanced umpire pathways.

What you’ll gain

  • Advanced skills in whistling, signalling, positioning, movement, and applying more complex rules with confidence.
  • An introduction to game management, including preventive communication and handling pressure moments.
  • Support through pre‑season workshops, on‑the‑night coaching, and guided self‑reflection to help refine decision‑making.
  • The knowledge, consistency, and on‑field presence needed to step into higher‑level hockey and future representative opportunities.
