Development - U16
Under 16 Development Programme 2026
What is the programme?
Tauranga Hockey will deliver a 7-week tiered Under-16 Development Programme in Term 1; players will be placed in groups of similar ability based on coach feedback from the 2026 programmes and campaigns. These sessions are open to all players aspiring to play representative hockey.
The Tuesday sessions focus on fundamental skills, principles of play, decision-making, and small gameplay, providing a strong foundation for players to develop their technical and tactical understanding.
Fight Club Friday introduces a new, high-intensity format featuring Hockey 5s competition-style games. Players will be placed into teams and rotate on and off in short, fast-paced matches designed to challenge their skill execution under pressure and develop game awareness in a fun, competitive environment.
This programme is an excellent preparation for the upcoming school, club, and representative hockey seasons, offering the perfect balance of structured development and competitive play.
Who can join?
You must be in Year 9, 10, or 11 at school to participate. Note: Tuesday training is for field players only. Goalkeepers are encouraged to join the Fight Club Friday sessions and have a dedicated development programme available under the Goalkeeper Development tab, where they can sign up.
