Talent and early ability at this age are no guarantees for future success. There are many reasons why success might fade over time, one of which is the relative age effect. On the other side, there is just as much evidence that talent for some will start to show only at a later age, your so-called late bloomers. For this reason, THA aims to treat all players at this age as equal and provide all the players in this age group with equally good coaching. It is THA’s aim to allow players to grow at their own pace and keep early talent as well as late bloomers engaged in hockey for a lifetime, whilst providing an opportunity to excel when the time is there.
The 2022 Year 7/8 Development Programme and 6-a side Festival
What is the programme?
THA will deliver a programme that will run over two half days. The programme is open to players of all abilities that intend to develop their game with a vision to play in the year 7/8 festival in the October holidays. The sessions will emphasise basic skills, principles of play, decision making and small gameplay.
What is the Festival?
The Festival is an opportunity for players to finish the season in style, allowing them to implement their newly learned skills in games. Teams from Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and Thames Valley will be involved. There will be girl's ad boy's grades and we will place the players in even teams.
To be eligible to join this programme, you must be in either year 7 or 8 at school.
This programme is for both field players and goalkeepers.
